Did anyone else find themselves gripped by the recent Olympics? And how awesome were the United States in London!
We topped the medal table with an astonishing 104 medals in total – 46 of which were gold! We finished with 16 more medals than nearest rivals China and 39 more than hosts Team GB.
I just wish I had a placed a few wagers on a site like Ladbrokes.com on our athletes winning in some of the events because I could have made a small fortune!
Here are my four favourite Olympic moments from London 2012…
Michael Phelps becoming the most-decorated Olympian ever
I love watching swimming, especially at the Olympics and especially when Michael Phelps is in action. While there was disappointment for Phelps in the 200m butterfly final when he was narrowly beaten, the Baltimore Bullet did claim four golds to re-write the history books again.
Jacob Varner’s gold heroics in the freestyle wrestling
I’ll be the first to admit that freestyle wrestling is not a sport I’d ever watched before the Olympics, but I was glued to my TV when Jacob Varner defeated Valerii Andriitsev in the final to take gold. Varner showed great heart and courage throughout.
A new world record in the women’s 4x100m
Everyone enjoys seeing track records smashed and our women’s 4x100m team didus proud in the final, setting a new record of40.82 seconds. This was a great achievement, especially when you consider that the USA didn’t even reach the final four years ago.
Gold for Sanya Richards-Ross
Wearing her trademark arm sleeves, Sanya Richards-Ross blazed to glory in the 400m and finally banished her Beijing nightmare. I’m not sure the arm sleeves with catch on, but she was inspiration at the Olympics.
